Regulated Euthanasia in the Netherlands - Is it Working?

Youngner-photo

The Netherlands was the first country in the world to practice legally sanctioned euthanasia and has been doing so now for over two decades. The Dutch government has taken advantage of this situation to extensively study what is happening, to identify problems, and to attempt to improve the practice. This talk reviews the legal, social, and clinical development of Dutch euthanasia, including the national studies. Dr. Youngner then examines the Dutch government’s efforts at continuous quality improvement, concluding with a discussion of whether or not these efforts have been successful.
