Veronica Maluwa |
Veronica Maluwa is a visiting scholar who comes to MSU’s Center for Ethics and Humanities in the Life Sciences (CEHLS) from St. Luke’s College of Nursing in Malawi. She is one of three second-year trainees to join us as part of a four-year research and bioethics training program, "International Training for Scholarship in Research Ethics," funded by the Fogarty International Center of the US National Institutes of Health. This program represents a partnership between CEHLS at Michigan State University and the University of Malawi College of Medicine. As a visiting scholar and trainee, Veronica is engaged in various relevant activities including attending MSU research ethics classes and sitting as a shadow reviewer on the University's Institutional Review Board.
Veronica, a registered nurse and midwife, earned a BSc. in Nursing Education from Kamuzu College of Nursing, University of Malawi. As the Nurse Tutor at St. Luke’s College of Nursing, a program jointly administered by the Ministry of Health and the Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM), she teaches courses, assesses students and supervises clinical training. Veronica recently participated in a nursing exchange program between Norway and Malawi, including an international community health component at the University of Oslo.
Research Interests:
Her main areas of research interest are the impacts of socioeconomic status,
dropout rates, and teachers’ perceptions of contraception on school
adolescents. She intends to do research on moral distress in nursing practice
in Malawi. She will be implementing a revised curriculum for CHAM nursing
colleges upon her return.
